The Old Swan Uppers

The Old Swan Uppers is both a pub and restaurant and lies close to the River Thames in the village of Cookham, Maidenhead in the heart of Royal Berkshire. Formerly known as the New Inn, it was refurbished last century, enhancing the old country pub character.

The Old Swan Uppers was named after the ancient activity of “swan upping” or marking of the swans on the Thames. This began when the Crown claimed ownership of all mute swans – at a time when swans were considered an important food source for banquets and feasts.

But don’t worry, The Old Swan Uppers doesn’t have swan on the menu today, instead you can be assured of a wide choice of superbly prepared dishes and an excellent choice of ales and wines.

A friendly mix of locals and visitors alwalys creates a warm and lively pub ambience at the Old Swan Uppers.
